POSTER SUBMISSIONS

We are welcoming poster submissions for VARC 2025. This may be new to a lot of people, so here is some guidance and more information.

We are inspired by the academic poster, which is a visual form of communicating academic research or projects that combines elements of text, diagrams, and other media to convey ideas as effectively as possible. Academic posters are usually presented at conferences, exhibitions or networking events, where the poster author(s) often stand by the poster to talk more about it and answer questions.

We welcome posters on current (research) projects and campaigns related to the UK Animal Rights movement. We are happy to consider other proposals as well, for example if you want to share a specific theory of change.

We do not accept posters that are simply recruitment or other types of organisational “branding” leaflets. They need to be structured, information-sharing, and have a clear message (see the section below). If you are unsure whether your idea is suitable for a poster, then do get in touch with us.

This depends on what your topic and project is. The most important thing is to keep the poster visually engaging, informative, and interesting.

If you are presenting a campaign or a (research) project, we would expect the poster to cover the following headings:

  • Why are we doing X?

  • What did we do?

  • What did we find out?

  • What does this mean and/or next steps?

If you are doing a research poster, these are similar to the traditional academic headings (i.e., Background, Methods, Results, Discussion, and Conclusions).

You may also want to present the poster in a completely different way, and we are happy to consider and discuss that further.

Do get in touch with us!

HOW DO YOU APPLY?

You submit a poster proposal using this form: link. The deadline for submissions is Friday 06 December 2024.

The VARC team then reviews the proposals and chooses the ones that get displayed at the conference. We only have space for 10 posters at VARC 2025.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I GET MY POSTER ACCEPTED?

You then create the poster. Some people use PowerPoint, Canva, or other design software.

Please note the following when preparing your poster for display on the poster boards:

  • Posters should be in PORTRAIT format.

  • Poster dimensions should be in A1.

  • Text and illustrations should be readable from a distance of 2 meters.

When your poster is finished, then you need to print and bring it to the conference. You will have to cover the printing costs yourself. We will have poster boards to display the posters on and dedicated poster sessions where we expect you to stand by your poster to answer questions.
